FIVE TOP REASONS BALI IS YOUR PERFECT CHOICE FOR A YOGA RETREAT

There are many, many beautiful places in the world and, if you’re thinking of participating in, or creating a yoga retreat, the conversation in your head is probably going something like this: “How about Costa Rica? Or maybe Peru? Perhaps … Bali?” Obviously, Bali’s a tropical paradise with beautiful weather and world-class beaches, but here are five additional reasons why a Bali yoga retreat is a great choice.

THE PEOPLE

You probably hear this about a lot of places, but the people in Bali really are special. We’ve travelled all over the world, and never encountered such gracious and welcoming people, eager to share their heritage, philosophies, and even their sacred rituals. There’s something profound about spending so much time in ceremony, which seems to contribute to an especially gentle and profound atmosphere.

THE CULTURE

While the exact origins of yoga are debatable, it seems pretty clear that it blossomed from a Hindu culture. You don’t have to be Hindu to practice now, of course, but being in an environment where ancient mythology is kept alive brings a whole new dimension to the practice. Balinese Hinduism occurs nowhere else on the planet and, in more rural areas of the island, life continues here very much as it has for thousands of years. In Bali, it feels as though Hanuman, Rama, and Kali are still very much alive.

THE NUMBER OF OPTIONS

Perhaps for the reasons above, there are an incredible number of excellent venues, teachers, and students in Bali, particularly given its small size. Whatever you’re looking for, yoga-wise, you’ll find it here. Perhaps the only downside to this wealth of choice, however, is the proliferation of tourist-oriented spots and the difficulty in locating a truly authentic experience of Bali. Know what you’re looking for and don’t settle for less.

THE FOOD

Ohhh, the food. The Balinese are an incredibly adaptable people, and they’ve embraced cuisines from all around the world (to say nothing of their aptitude for salsa and breakdancing). A yoga retreat here is also an opportunity for some serious culinary enjoyment. It’s relatively easy to find pesticide-free and vegetarian options, too.

THE MAGIC

Cheating a bit? Maybe. The magic of Bali isn’t really a quantifiable factor, but those who’ve been drawn here will testify to its existence. The impossible green of the rice fields, the stunning colours of the ceremonial costumes, and the soft voice on the breeze that whispers: “you’re in the right place”. The mysticism and magic of Bali is why we live here. Hardly a week goes by where we are not astounded by a supernatural event that takes place and is beyond explanation. Its undeniable and exposing our guest to deeply authentic Balinese ritual and culture has become our specialty.
