Michael Doliveck Wins 2013 Travel Photographer of the Year

Congratulations to our very own Michael Doliveck for winning the 2013 Travel Photographer of The Year award by the New York Travel Writers Society. The NYTWS is an international organization comprised of over 850 media professionals in the travel sector. These professionals range from travel bloggers, photographers, journalists, authors, editors and broadcasters. The award marks the latest recognition and growing popularity among travel bloggers, writers and photographers for Professor Doliveck’s outstanding work.

“I am deeply humbled and extremely honored to be the recipient of this meaningful distinction,” said Professor Doliveck. “There are numerous talented and dedicated travel photographers producing tremendous work who are deserving of this award. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to The New York Travel Writers Society for selecting me as the Travel Photographer of the Year for 2013.”

The NYTWS recognizes the top travel professionals at their annual black tie gala in New York City. This year, the Gala will be held on Saturday, December 14th, 2013.

Those of us who have been following the Floating Leaf blog know that Michael, or Mikaku as his friends call him, is a talented photographer. We’re very excited that he is now getting recognized for his amazing work. His images capture the authentic lives of the Balinese people, portraying them in the very settings in which they live. He provides us with an intimate glimpse into a mesmerizing and intriguing culture.

Bali is only one subject of his vast body of work, however. Michael has traveled throughout the world, sharpening his skills in over sixty countries. With photographs that endeavor to communicate the fascinating culture of distant societies, Michael is a storyteller whose goal is to reveal hidden, yet authentic reality as it is lived and celebrated in the far reaches of the world.

Bali is Michael’s favorite subject. Through years of study, travel and relationship building with the gracious Balinese people, Michael has created a body of work that explores the often-misinterpreted rituals and customs that are unique to this small island and wonderful people. His reverence and appreciation is clearly demonstrated in his work. Sharing his knowledge of this unique society with others is one of his greatest joys.

This marks a big year for Michael and the Floating Leaf / Balifornian family. Earlier in the year his blog was selected in “The Top 100 Travel Blogs to Follow in 2013”. This combined with the hotly anticipated opening of Floating Leaf Eco-Retreat late this December, and the couple welcoming a baby boy, has made for quite a year.

In celebration of the NYTWS award, we will be offering deep discounts on our Photography and Travel Bloggers Training Retreat

You can view much of Michael’s work on this blog and in the gallery section of the Floating Leaf website; however, the best way to take advantage of his photography skills and knowledge of Bali is to join us for the Photographer’s and Travel Blogger’s Ultimate Training Retreat ~ June 10-19, 2014.
