Clark Baird is a practicing yogi, world traveler, and surf instructor from the Central Coast of California, with a passion for sharing the joys of surfing, paddle boarding, hiking, and world traveling with anyone willing to experience epic adventures. Clark visited Floating Leaf during a yoga retreat 2 years ago and fell in love with Floating Leaf, the people of Bali, and the Balinese culture. He knew then that Floating Leaf would be the perfect venue for beginners to intermediate surf and yoga retreat. He has been surfing for 20 years and began surf instruction for beginners 5 years ago. While volunteering for Project Surf Camp, Clark excelled at teaching people how to surf. At Project Surf Camp, he worked with kids with multiple disabilities and fell in love with the joy and satisfaction that surfing brought to these wonderful souls. He has trained people of all ages and abilities to surf and paddle board, helping people improve their skills, as well as helping people overcome fears they may have of surfing or the ocean. Clark is a natural born retreat leader! He is so much fun to be around and always does his best to make sure everyone has the most amazing experiences in whatever adventure they’re participating in.
Clark is a loving husband and father of 4 beautiful children. Clark and his wife have been married for 14 years. His wife Jena owns a Yoga Studio and Retreat Business in the Central Coast of California. He has lead multiple paddle boarding and surfing retreats with his wife all over California. He has 3 young daughters ages 11, 9, 7 and a 17-year-old son Camryn that will be graduating high school this year and attending this retreat. Camryn assisted a teen surfing retreat with Clark and Jena last year and is a natural surfer and so much fun to be around. Clark has a Bachelors degree in geography and social science from the University of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, with an emphasis on world studies and world travel. When Clark is not leading surfing, yoga, or paddle boarding retreats with his wife, he is running his manufacturing and construction company 101 Cast Stone. He is a licensed contractor and focuses on custom masonry and artist stonework. From beautiful fireplace designs, entry ways, kitchen hoods, pizza ovens, outdoor fireplaces and outdoor living spaces. He gets much of his inspiration for his work from the many places he has been all over the world. Floating Leaf has some amazing stonework and architectural elements that really impressed Clark and Bali, in general, has some of the most beautiful architectural stone works found anywhere in the world.
Clark has worked in the hospitality industry for many years prior to his retreat leading and construction business. He worked in several high-end restaurants as a teenager and into his college years. He has lead catering crews and is in charge of all the food and hospitality for the California retreats that he and his wife host. He understands the importance of healthy living and good diet. Working in the hospitality industry for so many years has been vital to Clark’s abilities as a retreat leader and instructor. He understands the importance of the full experience. You will find him working alongside the staff to make sure that everyone is well taken care of. He has a unique ability to make everyone feel welcome and special. He is always in tune to people’s needs and will go above and beyond to make sure everyone has an incredible experience.
