TOP FIVE REASONS TO GO ON A YOGA RETREAT (PLUS A COCONUT OIL DIY)

Are you and your friends planning your next vacation so you could relax and just get away from the hassles and stress at work? Are you looking forward to doing some yoga and just stretch and release? Why not go on a yoga retreat?

What is a yoga retreat?

Most of those who practice yoga are familiar with a yoga retreat. But for beginners who have just heard of it, it is a recreational holiday, where every day work is abandoned for a few days up to weeks. It is designed as such to let go of daily stress and problems by practicing yoga and other activities, like meditation. Most of the retreats are set abroad or in peaceful, relaxing places, like the beach or mountains.

Why should you go on a yoga retreat?

Aside from the fact that you deserve a break to unwind, there are many other reasons to go on a yoga retreat. Taking a break can help make us more productive and better at work or at home. Sometimes, it makes us even happier.

1.   Practice your yoga

Busy schedules, traffic rush, meetings left and right, chores at home—all these take all our time that we hardly have enough for ourselves, much less attend yoga classes. At a yoga retreat, 2 classes are offered in a day. This will make sure we can practice yoga, ensure progress and reap all the positive effects, too.

2.   Digital detox

Let’s face it! Our noses are stuck on our cell phones or laptops every day. We constantly need to check our Facebook newsfeed, check the latest Instagram post, or read the newest tweets. I am guilty of that, too. But, it feels good to “unplug”. At a yoga retreat, we can rest, and not feel the need to tweet, update your status, post anything. There is not even a need to always text or call your friends.

3.   Relax and De-stress

Sometimes, being away from home and work is the only way to relax and let go of all our stressors. Being in a retreat allows you to listen to your body, rest, and be stress-free.

It is always nice to meet new friends, and it’s even better to meet new friends with the same interests. Who knows, these people might just become your friends for the rest of your life.

5.   Meditate

Without cell phones ringing, deadlines from bosses, you get to meditate. It is easier to breathe deeply, to experience calm and be present in the moment.

With such a beautiful scenery, it is indeed easy to meditate.

One of the yoga retreats I have joined had the best meditation classes, a coconut scented candle was used and it filled the room and had that relaxing aroma.

One of the main ingredients of this very simple and easy to do candle is coconut oil. Coconut oil has many uses and benefits for us, our homes, even for pets.

Making a coconut scented candle is easy. Here’s how to make it in 7 easy steps:

  • In a double broiler, melt 2 cups of beeswax to 150 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Once melted, take off beeswax from heat and add coconut oil.
  •  Mix and melt the coconut oil.
  • Tie wick to a stick or pencil and cut the wick to the length of the jar.
  • Add the essential oils and mix it. We recommend 30 drops orange oil, 50 drops ylang-ylang oil and 20 drops patchouli oil.
  • Mix well and pour gently into your jar of choice.
  • Let it dry for 1 to 2 days before using.

Light and let it glow.

Convinced to sign up for that yoga retreat yet? Just go and enjoy.
