A Sacred Balinese Beach

Our black sand beach of Pantai Purnama (Full Moon Beach) here in Sukawati on Bali’s East coast is said to have curative properties. People come from all over to bury themselves in the volcanic sand while they enjoy the ocean. It is considered a holy beach as well. The temple Pura Er Jeruk is known for its Taksu or spiritual power. There is a shrine on the beach and the area is used for dozens of inland villages to come for ceremonies such as Melasti (cleansing ritual) and Ngaben (cremation ceremony).

Surfing

Also some of the best surfing is just a short walk on the beach away. There are spots suitable for any level from 1st day out to professional. In fact, the break where the international championships of surfing was held, Keramas, considered the best high performance wave on the planet, is just down the beach. Several other beaches are accessible to Floating Leaf Eco-Luxury Retreat with something for everyone. For more on Bali’s epic surf, check our Bali Surf Guide and sign up for one of our surf packages.

Sunset Beach Yoga in Bali

Eka Pada Raja Kapotasana Yoga Pose

Parivrtta Janu Sirsasana Pose or Revolved Head-of-the-Knee Pose

It’s beneficial to warm up with Reclining Hand-to-Big-Toe Pose or Supta Padangusthasana as it is great for opening the hamstrings which are vulnerable in Parivrtta Janu Sirsasana.  If you cant reach your big toe, a strap makes this pose more accessible. Once in Revolved Head-of-the-Knee Pose, be certain to contract the quadriceps to allow the hamstrings to loosen. Otherwise the back and spine can be at risk of injury.

Eka Pada Raja Kapotasana Pose or  One-Legged King Pigeon Pose

A great pose to open the chest and shoulders; eka pada raja kapotasana also provides a great stretch for both the upper and lower body. The hips, groin, thighs and psoas are activated and in the upper body, the abdomen up through the neck benefit from proper alignment in this advanced pose.
