Muntigunung Charity Trek
One of our most rewarding excursions we offer is a trek in the Muntigunung region of Bali. In cooperation with our favorite Balinese charity, Muntigunung Community Social Enterprise, we offer a beautiful and enlightening trek through this remote area in northeast Bali.
Learn about how water-catchment buildings have helped empower the women and enable them to provide for their families. Instead of the dangerous daily water runs, the women and their families can gather under the water catchment building, benefit from education, spend time together, create beautiful crafts and ultimately have the time and energy to make a living and lift themselves out of poverty.
The Balinese are an immensely proud and resourceful culture and would only resort to begging if it were a last option. Sadly, this is what needed to happen to survive and the good people of the villages, often times along with their babies, ventured to tourist areas to seek help.
This is when a Swiss backed NGO stepped in to assist with construction of several buildings that feature spacious roofs that collect and store rainwater to provide a perennial water supply. These expansive roofs also offer a cool and comfortable a space for the residents to create crafts and process crops such as cashew nuts and rosella/hibiscus.
The goods are then sold to provide a well-earned income that the villagers can be proud of. It also keeps the families together, allows the children to attend school, and ensures the strong traditions of the community can continue as it has for thousands of years.
In conclusion, this trek is picturesque, educational, deeply rewarding and directly benefits the people and communities in need in a sustainable way.
The fulfilling feeling of trekking with a glorious backdrop while actually giving back and contributing to society is unparalleled. Experience the Muntigung Charity Trek by taking part in one of our retreats HERE.
