Today from Bali we bring you a perky fellah spotted at The Bali Bird Park fairly close to Floating Leaf Eco-Retreat in Gianyar, Bali, Indonesia.
He is a Grey Crowned Crane (Balearica regulorum).
The impressive and showy Grey Crowned Crane has an elaborate breeding display involving plumage, bowing, dancing, jumping and just plain showing off. He has a boisterous call produced by inflating his bright red gular sac (see deflated below). It also makes a trumpeting sound quite different from the of honking other crane species.
The Bali Bird Park provides sanctuary to almost 1000 birds of 250 different species including the famed Bali Starling. It also houses a reptile park complete with Komodo Dragons.
