Bali surf photography
We wanted to SHARE some Bali surf photos with you as its been a little while since we featured some surf photography. Not to worry, the stoke is still strong here and our local break of Keramas has been working well and keeping us very happy.
We usually post epic surf shots but we wanted to switch it up a bit and show other aspects of Bali surfing. Let’s call it…
The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.
First, The Good
A good father takes his daughter out for a great time surfing some of Bali’s best waves. My father taught me how to shovel snow, some kids have it better than others I guess. But the real story here was the young girl hardly needed a surf lesson at all. She shreded Uluwatu! Ulu is a wave that can put fear into the hearts of grown men. I loved watching this and cant wait to take our little grommet out there.
Speaking of Bali’s mighty waves instilling fear in grown men, takes us to our next section, The Bad.
Didn’t give offerings to Bali’s Surf Gods? Big mistake. Don’t learn the hard way. Take it from Aretha, RESPECT is the name of the game in Bali, while surfing, traveling, eating, actually everything.
Looks like this fine establishment is the recipient of a little extra business today.
I almost hate to SHARE the next image, but I was the guy who thought it was a clever idea to use an old Clint Eastwood cliché as the name for a surf blog post. I dislike SHARING the next image as 95% of the time surfing in Bali is a dream. The Balinese that we surf with are almost always super cool, friendly and great surfers. It’s the tourists that you need to watch out for. So, here goes… The Ugly.
OK, next surf post will be back to the Bali surf stoke that is business as usual here in paradise.

Maybe the ugly isn’t so ugly after all. It looks like the kid in the last picture dropped in on his friend, which may be the exception to the rule. Friends are fair game :-).
In the immortal words of Rodney King, “Cant we all just get along?” You have to have fun out there and messin with your friends certainly is fun. But I’ve seen this devolve into a mess and some hard feelings. Im definitely not the surf police and even though I’ve been here for a long time, I’m still a guest. Looking forward to having you come back and join us in the line-up (and maybe I’ll drop in on you too to make you feel at home- Jokes, baby! Just jokes).
Local surfers showing respect? You kidding! I’ve been living and surfing in Bali for 4 years already and there is not always respect from locals. I would say some local surfers are good and some are not. Just the same as foreigners. Most of local surfer boys are greedy for waves, they drop in and snake trying to get every possible wave and don’t five a fuck about others on the lineup. I don’t say everyone, but I’ve seen that a lot.
I understand. More commonly its not the local but yes it does happen. Why don’t you come surfing with us and we will introduce you to kind, fun and skilled local surfers. It all depends where you go and there are some areas to avoid. You just need to know where to go as most will be amazing.
Warmest regards,
Mikaku
